Welcome to the 176th week of Julian Assange Sydney Town Hall Gatherings.
Next Tuesday, the 11th of April, will be exactly 4 years since Julian was first placed in His Majesty’s Prison Belmarsh, on behalf of non-transparent power. Before that, Julian had been granted political asylum by the Ecuadorian government of Rafael Correa, but after the leadership of that country changed, non-transparent power struck a deal in which Ecuador received a 4.2-billion-dollar IMF loan, while illegally revoking the political asylum and thus Ecuadorian Citizenship it had previously given to Julian Assange.
Non-transparent power had been keen to imprison Julian Assange because Julian’s journalism has created a higher degree of transparency than had previously existed. Julian’s journalism had shown us that power has a habit of working in secret to hide its criminal activities from the public.
Non-transparent power works in secret from the upper echelons of a hierarchy of surveillance and control. Information flows upward and orders flow downward. Puppets, like national prime ministers and presidents are used to control us for the purposes of non-transparent power. The puppets have no freedom. They are compromised and expendable so they must do exactly as non-transparent power demands. Non-transparent power uses its puppets for the purpose of gaining our confidence through deception so that they may introduce new levels of oppression.
Julian Assange is in prison because the notion of transparent democracy threatens the existence of non-transparent power. Standing in unity for the freedom of Julian Assange is seen as threat to non-transparent power. This is a good thing! This is what we must do.
It is important that we realise that non-transparent hierarchical control is intent on suppressing our knowledge of truth, as well as increasing their knowledge about us. In contrast, we need greater transparency for those who exercise power and greater privacy for ordinary people. With the imprisonment of Julian Assange, our access to the evidence we need is in short supply! To increase the supply of the evidence we need to hold power to account we must show our unity and help free Julian Assange!
We need to break the hierarchical control of non-transparent power and create transparent democracy! To do this, we need to be a unified force! We need to free Julian Assange!
