Welcome to the 204th week of Julian Assange Sydney Town Hall gatherings!
Julian Assange is an innocent Australian journalist who is being held in awful prison conditions in the UK for publishing evidence of US war crimes. Media organisations involved in mainstream Western propaganda, do not want to help free Julian, because they know their interests depend on the maintenance of government lies.
The Australian government pretends to be concerned about Julian’s welfare because it knows the Australian people are overwhelmingly in support of his freedom. We also know that members of the Australian government are unwilling to upset the governments of the UK and the US. Since 2010, no Australian government has been willing to be open and above board about Julian’s situation. They desperately avoid mentioning that Julian Assange is completely innocent, that his journalism has been of great service to ordinary people around the world, and that he should be free and should always have been free! They don’t want people realising that truthful journalism is essential for peace and true democracy! They want to keep all of us ignorant, confused and isolated! They want all of us to fight with each other and be distracted from achieving the unity we need to be able to challenge the status quo!
For many years, Julian Assange performed stand-out journalism, as the editor in chief of WikiLeaks! Through the WikiLeaks website, Julian published an abundance of truthful information that was the public’s right to know! Whenever, Julian obtained authentic evidence from whistleblowers, about government or corporate wrongdoing, he published it for the benefit of the public. This is precisely what a free press operating within a democracy is required to do and is supposed to be able to do, to maintain a healthy bureaucracy. An indication how corrupt a government is, is its propensity to suppress truthful public-interest information. The reactions of the UK, the US and Australian governments, in response to Julian’s journalism suggests they don’t want true democracy and would rather facilitate corruption.
Governments that wish to call themselves democratic, must be open to the public knowing about their activities. If you think your government is covering up important information about its own wrongdoing, you must realise that it is unlikely to do anything about it! The only solution is for people to come together and unite for truth, peace and freedom.
Any government that persecutes truth-telling journalists does NOT have legitimate authority. Media involved in propaganda does NOT have legitimate authority. We must come to our senses and realise we are the only ones who have legitimate authority in the situation we find ourselves in! We must unite for peace! We must unite for true democracy! We must unite for the freedom of Julian Assange.
