Unity arises naturally when we all recognise our wellbeing is dependent on that unity. In a world of truth, unity serves us very well!! In natural disasters, communities come together in recognition of the truth to ensure everyone is safe and cared for. Natural unity depends on people being conscious of the truth.
Unity may also arise temporarily from a lie. The boy who cried ‘wolf’ managed to induce a short-lived unity in his community through telling a lie. Initially, everyone believed the boy’s shouts of ‘wolf’ were in good faith. People came in unity to help deal with a wolf attack, but soon learned that the wolf wasn’t there. After wasting everyone’s time on repeated occasions, the community stopped responding to the boy’s lies. When a wolf did appear, the boy’s truthful cries of ‘wolf’ failed to bring about a response of unity, and the wolf was able to wreak havoc! Initially, the boy’s lies produced unity, but ultimately, his lies produced apathy. The story of ‘the boy who cried wolf reveals that we must have truth if we are able to have sustained unity! ‘The boy who cried wolf’ also reveals that repeated lies can induce apathy and disrupt unity.
Apathy may also occur under oppressive regimes. When people fear brutal regimes, they tend to comply without question. On the surface, a brutal regime may appear to demonstrate the unity of the people, however apathy must not be confused with unity!
Apathy, occurs when people fail to act for the benefit of their community. Apathy is a failure to realise a deeper truth. Apathy is failure to realise that we are part of a community and that our communication channels with other members of the community must be fully open. Apathy is the failure to realise the importance of our free speech. If we don’t speak against brutal regimes, our apathy will ensure we live under a brutal regime.
Julian Assange is a man who made it possible for us to unite, by giving us the power of truth! Apathy among people is allowing Julian to be persecuted for his acts of publishing truth.
Over the years, many lies have been told! The media has manipulated people through relentless fear campaigns. These lies have resulted in the great apathy we see today. We must transcend our apathy and act for the good of our communities!
Julian Assange is completely innocent! He is one of us!
His persecution is based on lies!
The people must transcend the lies! We must build unity on the truth.
