Welcome to the 213th week of Julian Assange Sydney Town Hall gatherings.
We must have greater awareness that governments have a tendency to move towards tyranny.
Governments make undemocratic decisions, when they believe they can get away with making them.
When they believe they can get away with supressing the truth, they suppress the truth. When they believe they can get away with denying us our inalienable human rights, they deny our inalienable human rights. When they believe they can get away with torturing dissidents, they torture dissidents.
None of what is happening to Julian Assange is in the spirit of democracy.
None of what is happening to David McBride is in the spirit of democracy.
None of what is happening to journalists in Gaza is in the spirit of democracy.
Persecuting brave journalists, dissidents and whistle blowers is in the spirit of tyranny.
How do our governments get away with tyranny? They get away with tyranny, because the public can be manipulated by incessant media propaganda, which pushes people to apathy, division and confusion.
Apathy, division and confusion have enabled the parasites of corrupt power to detain Julian for 13 years. The punishment of Julian suppresses the truth, by preventing him from being engaged in public-interest journalism and acts as a deterrent to others who may be contemplating becoming engaged in public-interest journalism, which exposes evidence of war crimes, high-level corruption and torture.
The suppression of Julian’s public interest journalism is a corrupt use of power, yet people often fail to grasp its seriousness. The journalism of Julian Assange is highly significant, but many people don’t realise the truth about his persecution, don’t think they can do anything about it, or worse, are happy not to do anything about it!
This week, the UK court announced a public hearing to determine whether Julian Assange will be permitted to continue arguing his case in court, or whether the process of his extradition to the US will be completed. The new hearing will take place in two months, on the 20th and 21st of February 2024.
Since Julian’s imprisonment at Belmarsh Prison, four and a half years ago, the grass-roots campaign to prevent Julian’s extradition and free him, has been waking up many people.
In Sydney, there are now various awareness raising events held on a weekly basis. During the last four and a half years, Julian’s supporters have acquired much knowledge and skill, to make us more effective. It is vital that we use these skills and knowledge to raise public awareness to a new high., so that the UK High Court will find itself constrained by the will of the people and enact true justice.
